Origin:
Andromeda is a figure from Greek mythology. She was the daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia of Ethiopia. According to the myth, Cassiopeia boasted that her daughter was more beautiful than the sea nymphs known as the Nereids.
To punish Cassiopeia's pride, Poseidon, the god of the sea, sent a sea monster known as Cetus to ravage the kingdom. To appease Poseidon, Cepheus was forced to sacrifice his daughter to the monster. Andromeda was chained to a rock and left to die, but she was rescued by the hero Perseus.
